Which router model can do ip aliasing?

Hello from Spain,

We need an ADSL router that can do "IP Aliasing" and we are looking for a Cisco product that can do this. The requeriments are: internal LAN with 2 different segments with 2 different ip addressing but only one router. Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Hola

perhaps you are referring to NAT (network address translation), that cisco has invented in 1996, all models do that.

Hope this helps, please rate pos if it does

Re: Which router model can do ip aliasing?

Hola / Hello,

I am not refering to NAT. I am refering to the possibility to add a second LAN IP to the router. The example is:

- Our principal network is on subnet 192.168.0.x with gateway (router) 192.168.0.1.

- We want a second network segment in 192.168.1.x, and add a sencond IP to the same router in 192.168.1.1.

This can be done with some Zyxel routers. In those they call "Ip Alias" to this feature. Maybe Cisco use other name to this feature??

Thanks

Hi

If you are having 2 local networks then you can make use of secondary interface and have one segment configured with that.

By doing so both the lan segments will have the same router as their default gateway but with different ip address.

You need to work on the nat statements accordingly so that both your lan segments get natted.

You can use an 877 that is the smallest of business level ADSL routers. If you get with advanced ip services image, you will able to configure up to 4 separate subnets for the 4 ethernet ports that it has.
