I have looked and cannot find a reason for the "Keepalive 2" statement in a 2950 switch.. TIA

Hi,
By default, I believe keepalives are not sent out of the interface. Setting 'keepalive 2' will sent out a keealive message every 2 seconds.

I know this about keepalives, but do not know why it applies here...
I understand to use (as an option) to set keepalives on WAN interfaces, but do not know about Fast Ethernet.. is it VoIP related?? thanks

Hi Robbie,
The keepalive packets are part of a loopback detection mechanism. If a port receives a keepalive that it had sent, then the switch will disable the port to prevent a layer 2 loop.
