WIC-1ADSL and 3640

tdg911
Level 1
Level 1

I'm running a c3640 at home with 2 connections. 1 connection cable(charter communications, dynamic ip and outside nat interface) and Bell dsl(static). I'm currently routing certain traffic over the adsl line to the office and the non-office traffic over cable (for the additional speed).

I purchased a wic-1adsl to handle the dsl termination. All of the example configs I have looked into show ATM interface. I have upgraded several different revisions of IOS and my router only gives me Virtual-Access1 interface and no ATM interfaces.

The IOS version I am currently using is:

c3640-telco-mz.123-13b.bin

Has anyone out there run into a problem like this? I can configure the Virtual-template for a ppp connection but I need to set a pppoe connection. Any help is always appreciated.

Thanks

Probably its the feature set (may be you need IP Plus) rather than IP only feature set to support this card.

thanks for the reply hank, I dug a bit deeper and found that I was using an older nm1e2w module instead of the 1fe2w modules. I now have the atm interface but am having problems with the config to get this line up.

I called up bellsouth to get my vpi/vci numbers so all of this is good. struggling lol

This config should work, once you know the correct VPI/VCI values.

I've tried just about everything last night and I do appreciate your time in helping with this issue. I'll paste my config below. I want to explain what I'm trying to do here once you see my different static routes.

I live in the affected area from Katrina, before the storm I was able to vpn from an xp machine to my unix vpn server at the office to print, file share to samba servers etc etc. Post Katrina my vpn connections are very unstable. I have no idea what charter did but something isn't right. I ordered bellsouth dsl recently and my line works fine. I'm currently connecting the dsl to a linksys and using the 3640 for cable and routing office ip's over the linksys connection.

I want to terminate the dsl on the 3640 so I can set my tunnel up to route me some ip's from the office. The reason for this is Bellsouth is blocking ports 137,138 and 139 along with 25. Charter is blocking the same except 25. I figured I'll just tunnel through them like I did before

F0/0 - connection to charter ip set to dhcp nat outside

E1/0 - Internal net - nat inside

I just don't know what else to try.

Troy,

You are here talking about two ISPs and I hope your Charter network is already up and running as far as network connectivity to the Internet. Lets shut down that interface (TEST mode) and see if you are able to reach the internet through the DSL network. For this you will need to put ip nat outside on the dialer interface and create separate nat pool so that packets get NAT'd using the new ip address space. If that also works then you should have failover established across the two links.

Hello,

the vast majority of the time that I have seen a CIsco router not recognize an ADSL card it has been because if a bug. I recommend that you downgrade to a different 12.3 version than the one you are running. You may have to expereiment with the versions but I believe that is the thing to try at this point.

Hope this helps.

nice day

I thought from your original post you were running 12.3 but it seems that you are runnnig 12.4 correct? I would start here

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Software/Iosplanner/Planner-tool/iosplanner.cgi?get_crypto=&data_from=&hardware_name=3640&software_name=&release_name=12.2.34&majorRel=12.2&state=:RL:HW&type=General%20Deployment

with a 12.2 GD release and work my way up

Hope this helps.

Hello,

not sure if anybody has already mentioned this, but the WIC-1ADSL is not supported in the NM-2E-2W:

WIC-1ADSL

3600

Supported in:

NM-1FE1R2W

NM-1FE2W

NM-2FE2W

NM-2W

Not supported in:

NM-1E1R2W

NM-1E2W

NM-2E2W

So you need to install it in either of the supported modules.

Regards,

GNT

Thank you

im purchase the new module NM-1fe2w to plug the wic-1adsl
