Getting Windows security login prompt when going to any website

We have just installed our first SM-WAE running 5.1.1.b into our network, the rest of the WAEs are running 4.3.3,

this morning when users go to any external website, they get the Windows security prompt for username/password, disabling the SM interface on the router thereby disabling the WAE no longer got the prompt, when anabled again the prompt came back. In the configuration on the CM found the login to Windows domain page.logged the SM-WAE into the windows domain sucessfully. The problem was still there. In last resort reloaded the SM-WAE that seemed to clear the problem. Would a reload have cleared the problem without logging into the Windows domain.?

Can anybody explain why we were getting the security prompts?

Again answering my own Question  software bug as below

Symptom:

URL over 255 characters and WAE improperly caches in metadatacache and serves back to clients a 401 Authorization Required

Conditions:

httpao with accelerator http metadatacache unauthorized-response enabled. (default)

Workaround:

no accelerator http metadatacache unauthorized-response enable

or

a temp workaround is #clear cache http-metadatacache unauthorized-response
