Single CM, multiple interfaces

Hi guys.

I have an environment with a single CM and multiple appliances.

The Central Manager has two management interfaces (one interface in the primary CPE and another in the secondary CPE). This is in this way because we are unable to use the local switch in order to create a single management vlan.

CPE2---CM---CPE1

I am willing to provide redundancy to the central manager (connectivity) and also, the main important thing, provide redundancy to the remote appliances (if the primary goes down, the appliances should not lose connectivity with the CM).

If this is possible, how can I accomplish this? (primary/stanby?)

The appliances are also installed in this way (two management interfaces connected to two different CPEs).
The optimization occurs via inline.

Thanks in advance

Hi Ronaldo,

Not sure I understand your topology correctly, but if your two CPEs are just separate layer 2 path, you should look into configuring Standby interface on both CM and accelerators, see [1, 2].

If, however, the two CPEs should be different layer 3 paths, there's no way to get this work, as you can only register an accelerator with a single CM at a time (based on IP address or hostname). Having two different layer 3 paths would mean having two IP addresses and two hostnames for the same CM, though.

If you want redundancy for the CM database as well, you may want to look into getting a standby CM as well, see [3, 4]. You would need a separate WAAS appliance for this, though.

Let me know, if this helps, or if I misunderstood you.

Regards,
Michael

Hi.

You understood correctly and the suggestions were good.
We decided to move the cables and connect them to the LAN switch. Then, we have created a dedicated vlan for management purposes and we put the two CPEs, the appliance and CM within the same subnet. Finally, we have configured HSRP.

Thanks for your message and recommendations.
