WAAS Deloyment support

We are about deploying WAAS for a client , we notice the Cisco switch 6506 we plan to config WCCP ver 2, the switch is running Cat IOS Version McpSW: 5.5(1): we notice it support WCCP ver 2, but on the interface it can only support ip wccp 6x redirect out only. What can we do to deploy WAAS Device with WCCP using above mentioned switch

Hi James,

When using a 6500 in Hybrid mode we recommend using the following minimum CAT OS and IOS version and requirements.

CATOS 8.5

IOS 12.2(18)SXF16

Also, we would highly encourage you to use L2-redirect and Mask assignment as the redirect and assignment method configured on your WAE(s) which would require the WAE(s) to be layer 2 adjacent to the 6500.

Lastly, you should use redirect in statements only (typically 61 redirect in on the LAN facing L3 interface(s) and 62 redirect in on the WAN facing L3 interface(s)).

By using L2-redirect, Mask assignment, and only redirect in statements, all wccp redirect traffic will be handled in hardware on the 6500.  Any deviation from this will cause increased CPU utilization on the 6500 and may impact performance.
