We are looking at upgrading a wireless network to for 802.11n. If we upgrade the 4402 WLC to support this, would the older AP1010 access points support 802.11n wireless?

You will need an 802.11n Ap to support 802.11n (with full capabilities).

You can support 802.11n client but only at the 802.11b/g or 802.11a datarates.

According to the Ap´s you buy it´s more probably you can not use these APs (ap 1010) due to the use of sofware that support the newer ap´s but not the older.

Airespace 1010 is supported until release 4.2

Best regards.

APs that support 802.11n are the following:

1040, 1140, 1250, 1260 and 3500i/e.

NOTE that the 1260 and the 3500 will only support antenna gain of up to 6 dBm.
