I am trying to setup Jabber. My problem is that the smart phones do not roam to the next access point until the rssi is so low the person can no longer hear the conversation. Is there any way to force the smart phone to roam sooner?

You're in the wrong forum. Cisco does not (yet) make SmartPhones.
The decision to roam is based on the client. The WAPs can't force clients to roam.
What is the rate of your channel overlap?

overlap is 30-40%. Are there any smart phones that comply with CCX 4 or 5?

Don't know if this question is relevant to your problem but here's the link: Cisco Compatible Extensions Client Devices

Hi,
Romaing is a client based decision, what you can do on the APs is make sure that the overlapp of the cell is not more then 15%, make sure you have used the non overlapping channels 1-6-11 between your access points leaving the units with the same channel the further apart.

Cisco TAC helped us out. They had us turn off the data rates below 18Mbs, made 24Mbs the mandatory. Works great now.
