I saw a couple of 3500s do this today and one would receive POE but the ethernet link wouldn't come up and the other one worked fine on the same drop with the same patch cables.  I've noticed that sometimes certain patch cables won't sit into Cisco APs well and they will receive POE but won't get a good ethernet connection.  I'm not sure if all 3500s do this "automatic DDR calibration upgrade logic" or not or if these two phenomenom are even related.
