Resolution
In order to use the Aironet 1500 Series Access Point (AP), a Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) is required. These units cannot be used in stand-alone mode. They utilize the Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP) and require a controller in order to communicate. The AP must register with the controller before any communication can be done.
Out- of -Box access points needs to be primed before deploying in the actual location. The process of storing controller IP addresses in access points for later deployment is called priming the access point.
Note: Do not connect a RAP directly to a Cisco wireless LAN controller. A switch or router between the wireless LAN controller and the RAP is required because Cisco wireless LAN controllers do not forward Ethernet traffic coming from an LWAPP-enabled port.
