Core Issue

CB21AG Aironet Desktop Utility (ADU) clients sometimes see CCS.EXE errors or grayed out profiles.

Resolution

This problem is documented in Cisco bug ID CSCsc46853.

The problem may be associated with installing ADU on a PC that previously had ACU installed.

Cisco Aironet CB21AG and PI21AG client adapter software is incompatible with other Cisco Aironet client adapter software. The Aironet Desktop Utility (ADU) must be used with CB21AG and PI21AG cards, and the Aironet Client Utility (ACU) must be used with all other Cisco Aironet client adapters.

After the first installation and reboot, when you click on the ADU icon in the Profile Management, all the area are grayed out. You cannot create or modify the profile. The installation fails, but the c:\temp\cisco_installer.log indicates that the installation has completed successfully.

After the second installation and reboot, when you click on the ADU icon, you are able to configure the Service Set Identifier (SSID) and make wireless association to the Access Point (AP). Selecting or not selecting the site survey utility during installation does not affect the result.

This issue is specific to certain laptops running Windows XP PRO SP2, and in this scenario even disable the wireless-zero configuration service .

The most common method of resolving this has been to un-install the client and reinstall it.

This issue is fixed in version 2.6. It was first found in version 2.5.

To download the latest version of ADU, refer to Downloads.
