Hi,

Thanks for your reply.  It would be intersting to know why.  However, I don't have the time to do researching right now.  I'm in the middle of a project.  However, I did a bit of testing in my lap and I just would like to share what I think and what I found out.  My AP configuration is the same as yours.  Assuming that Vlan 100 is being used to manage the WLAN AP.

a) If I configure the switch port to have Vlan 100 native, then I don't configure a sub-interface for the native Vlan 100 on the GigabitEthernet0 and I don't configure a sub-interface for the native Vlan 100 on interface Dot11Radio0, I can still manage the WLAN AP correctly.

b) If I configure the switch port to have Vlan 100 native, then I configure a sub-interface for the native Vlan 100 on the GigabitEthernet0 and I don't configure a sub-interface for the native Vlan 100 on interface Dot11Radio0, I can still manage the WLAN AP correctly.

c) If I configure the switch port to have Vlan 100 native, then I configure a sub-interface for the native Vlan 100 on the GigabitEthernet0 and I don't configure a sub-interface for the native Vlan 100 on interface Dot11Radio0, I can manage the WLAN AP correctly.  This is the same as the example in your video.

I think that the reason (a) works is that the WLAN interface GigabitEthernet0 and interface Dot11Radio0 have native Vlan 1.  So, even though the native Vlan on the port switch is Vlan 100, somehow it uses Vlan 1 on the WLAN AP.  I used the "show vlans" on the WLAN AP for checking.

The reason fro (b) working must be the same as (a).

The puzzling thing is that if one connects two cisco switches with missmatching native Vlans, one gets error logging messages.  Instead, in this scenario, one does not get anything.

For security reason, I don't like to use the native Vlan as the management Vlan and I never use Vlan 1 (the default native Vlan).  But, between the switch and the WLAN AP, I cannot find anyother way of managing the WLAN AP without using the native Vlan.  Even though, I'm not using Vlan 1.

Also, for security reasons, I don't like interface Dot11Radio0 to have Vlan 1 as the native Vlan.  I changed this to a random number.  It all works fine.

By the way, I kept on using "show vlans" while testing every single change.  My explanation above is just deducing while doing.

Anyway, thanks

CORRECTION

c) If I configure the switch port to have Vlan 100 native, then I configure a sub-interface for the native Vlan 100 on the GigabitEthernet0 and I configure a sub-interface for the native Vlan 100 on interface Dot11Radio0, I can manage the WLAN AP correctly.  This is the same as the example in your video.

Really sorry to say.. its not supported.. The config guide tells that its is supported if we are using LWAPP infrastructure not with the IOS..
