Temperature in ASR9010.

Hello,

I have a question about the following show command:

RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:ASR9010(admin)#sh environment temperatures

Fri Feb 17 08:20:50.905 SCHILE

R/S/I   Modules Sensor                  (deg C)

0/0/*

        host    Inlet0                  33.2

        host    Hotspot0                42.1

0/1/*

        host    Inlet0                  33.5

        host    Hotspot0                43.5

0/RSP0/*

        host    Inlet0                  27.8

        host    Hotspot0                40.6

0/RSP1/*

        host    Inlet0                  27.8

        host    Hotspot0                40.3

0/FT0/*

        host    Inlet0                  26.8

        host    Hotspot0                28.5

0/FT1/*

        host    Inlet0                  27.1

        host    Hotspot0                30.0

What temperature should be monitored?, Inlet or Hotspot?.

What is the maximum temperature that can have the router?

Regards,

Jaime Soto

Hello Jaime,

There are typically two temperature sensors per line card. Where the sensors
are located varies from card to card, based on how the airflow is designed for
that particular card.
With the CLI command "show environment temperatures" you can read out the
measured temperature from both sensors. "Inlet" is generally a sensor very near
where the fans would be. On the ASR9010, this would be near the "bottom" of the
chassis where the fan trays are. It's generally a spot on the card that is
"upwind" of all the heat generating components. "Hotspot" is the exactly that:
it's the hottest spot on the linecard and again varies a lot depending on where
exactly the heat generating components are.

So better to monitor hotspots

For the threshold information you can use

admin sh envir table

Hello Vadim,

Thanks for the explanation, I understand perfectly.

In sh environment table command I can see:

RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:ASR9010(admin)#sh environment table

Fri Feb 17 08:49:49.722 SCHILE

R/S/I   Modules Sensor                  Minor              Major              Critical

                                        (Lo Hi)            (Lo Hi)            (Lo Hi)

0/0/*

        host    Inlet0                  --/   --           --/   --           --/   --

        host    Hotspot0                --/   --           --/   --           --/   86

That´s means that 86°C the maximum temperature that one LC could have?

Regards,

Jaime Soto.

Hi Jaime,

yes, normally the thresholds are

Chassis critical ambient temperature (avg of RSPs inlet),
  rising  ==> raise at/above 56C
  falling ==> clear below 54C

Card critical over temperature (hotspot)
  rising  ==> raise at/above 86C
  falling ==> clear below 84C

Card critical over temperature shutdown (hotspot)
  RSP ==> at/above 93C
  LC  ==> at/above 90C

Thanks again Vadim.

A last question:

Is there any way to the ASR sends an alarm in a more low threshold?, for example I want that when temperature is 70C the router sends an alarm.

Regards,

Jaime.

Hi Jaime,

Unfortunatelt not, these thresholds are not configurable

So the alarm will be sent when the thresholds are reached.
