I have taken over part of the IT department at my company. We had an SRW2048 not being used and so I decided to plug it in because we'll start using it shortly. But when I plug it in, none of the lights move except for what's in the provided (but blurry) picture. The attached log file is from the HyperTerminal session I have. It seems like the switch just keeps rebooting. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Any and all help is appreciated.

Well since it is and "old not beeing used" switch, and you are sure you don't need the configuration stored on the switch i would try to force it to factory settings to eliminate image clitches. If you hold down the small reset button on the switch for more the 10 second it should load the factory image.
The fatal error troubles me though which occours during your boot, so perhaps some of the hardware is faulty.

It doesn't seem to have a reset switch. This is a 48-port small business and I don't recall those ever having the reset switch. I don't believe there are any settings that need to be saved.

Brian,
You are correct, there is no hardware reset button on this switch.
It's performed either via the Console or the WebUI.
Thanks!
Dave

You can recover the switch.
First: Regarding the reset button: The SLM/SGE/SFE Linksys/Cisco SB series switches do have a reset button. The successor of the SRW the Cisco SB 300 series also does have a reset button. The SRW does not. However as I stated you can (very likely) recover the switch.
From your hyperterm you need to interrupt the boot process at the very begiinning;

you should get an option to recover the firmware by using the terminal.
The firmware needs to be downloaded by you from the Cisco Download website beforehand to your PC.
In hyperterm when you initiate transfer firmware from the console you need to start the eqivalent transfer command on your terminal emulation (Z-MODEM, X_MODEM etc.)
As I do not have a switch in front of me the above is from my memory.
If you do not figure it out post again.

I have 5 SRW2048's doing the same thing. They'll boot fine after a hard power cycle (remove) AC power. And the problem seems to be with the flash module.
If I start the switch in diagnostic mode (after a hard power cycle) I can get to all the diagnostic tools. Everything passes except flash. After a second run of flash (once the firmware has been wiped) it will pass the flash tests. At this point, I've tried loading firmware 1.2.2 and 1.2.2d and regardless, they both end up repeating the same problem.
If anyone has a solution, I'd be very happy to hear it, since I have 5 of these suckers down right now because of it. Also the problem only presented after I tried flashing from 1.2.2 to 1.2.2d. Also, these 5 switches vary in age, but there all about 3 years old.

I had the same issue with our SRW2048.
I downloaded from http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/release.html?mdfid=282414076&catid=268438038&softwareid=282463181&release=1.2.2d&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest
verstion 1.2.2 (not the d version), downloaded the flash via Hyperterminal.
When the switch rebooted, we received errors and the switch rebooted.
We had to power cycle the switch after the firmware download. This fixed our issue and our switch is now running on the 1.2.2 firmware.
We did not have to erase our configuration.

Ok so i finally got the serial cable, i connected it to the switch and finally figure out how to get to the login screen. I dont have the user and password so how do i reflash the switch. I downloaded the file from the link in this same discusiion. File ends in .ros . So what do i do now?

Thanks a lot this worked for me. I think that for some reason the Switch does not fully delete its flash when being updated, so what I did was update the firmware and wait until it said it was going to do a "warm boot" then I pulled the power plug, gave it about 30 seconds and plugged it back in. Switch is working now and is not giving me any fatal error codes. Also I used version 1.2.2 (not the d version). Hope this helps someone out. Thanks a lot guys, and the community.
