There's a mobile version of our website.
I have been struggling to configure a cisco airnet AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9 access point.
this is not my first time as I have configured similar accesspoints before.
the access point gets an IP from the dhcp server. I can ping the access point over the network.
However, when I type in the ip in the web browser, nothing comes up. there is no proxy issue.
the console(hyperterminal, connected through serial cable) shows the following error message:
%CAPWAP-3-ERRORLOG: COULD NOT RESOLVE CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER
This AP is a CUWN not an autonomous AP. You can follow the instructions below to convert to iOS.
Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPad App
You see the "LAP" in AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9 this means its a LWAPP/CAPWAP access point and you need a WLC to control it. This doesnt me you cant use this as an autonomous access point as you can. HOWEVER, you will need to chnage the code on it ..

Use the link below to convert your AP from LWAP/CAPWAP to Autonomous. Make sure you have the correct IOS.
Do you have a WLC controller? Yes or no ?
You can getthe image from teh cisco software download site. Click on access poins then model and download the latest autonomous code. Then set up TEFT and set your PC to 10.0.0.5. Reset the ap by holding down the mode button for 20 seconds. After which time, the AP will take ip address 10.0.0.1..
Oh, and changee your software name to
When you reset the AP 2 things happen. It looks for that file name and it gives itself ip 10.0.0.1
You cool now?

This is what I am getting:
To Download this software, you must have a valid service contract associated to your Cisco.com user ID.
I thought downloading the ios image was free! is there any other way?
Is there any issue with 2106?
Cisco just announced the end-of-sale of the 2100 on 27 October 2011. Do you really want to purchase one of those? I know I wouldn't.
If memory serves me correct, the 2100 can't load firmware above 6.X so which means you'll be using APs that support this firmware like 1130, 1140, 1230, 1240, 1250, old 1000/1100 and old 1200 WAPs.
2106/12/25 will support 7.0.xx code. It will also support all existing APs including 3500,1140,1040.
I don't think it is EOS atleast does not say on the website :
Deciding on whether you need a WLC or not is upto your budget and what features you need on your Wireless Infrastructure.. If you have $$ to spend I would recommend going in for 2504. If not you can configure them in standalone and you can always buy a WLC based system in future given you only have 3 APs.
If you need IOS code, you can either approach
1) Your reseller or
2) Cisco SE
3) Call TAC support and ask CIN agent to grant access to CCO code based on what you purchased. Also explain your situation.
You can also follow this thread to upgrade :
Thanks for the most acurate reply. Since I bought 3 x 1142N, would like to get a controller. Just doublechecking with you if 1142N is compatible with 2106?
Will contact the right people to gain access to the download section.
Many thanks guys!
I bought myself a 2106 controller. it can see the access points fine. How do I go about setting up a WPA2 code for client access? if i try to join the AP now, it comes up wih a user name and password request and i am not sure which user account details i have to use.
