Dear All,

sorry if i in wrong sub-forum.

i wanna ask about diagnostic test to cisco WS-C2960S-48FPS-L

i run this command for diagnostic test.

switch#diagnostic start switch 1 test all

the output show:

many switch i test diag and the result is fail for TestPortAsicLoopback

Switch01#

051201: Jun 15 12:02:48.544 WIB: %DIAG-3-TEST_FAIL: Switch 1: TestPortAsicLoopback{ID=2} has failed. Error code = 0x1

switch01#show diagnostic result switch all detail

2) TestPortAsicLoopback ------------> F

          Error code ------------------> 1 (DIAG_FAILURE)

          Total run count -------------> 1

          Last test execution time ----> Jun 15 2013 11:29:19

          First test failure time -----> Jun 15 2013 11:29:19

          Last test failure time ------> Jun 15 2013 11:29:19

          Last test pass time ---------> n/a

          Total failure count ---------> 1

          Consecutive failure count ---> 1

this is diagnostic test passed.

switch02:

067775: Jun 15 12:05:37.335 WIB: %DIAG-6-TEST_RUNNING: Switch 1: Running TestPortAsicLoopback{ID=2} ...

067776: Jun 15 12:05:44.628 WIB: %DIAG-6-TEST_OK: Switch 1: TestPortAsicLoopback{ID=2} has completed successfully

switch02#show diagnostic result switch all detail

2) TestPortAsicLoopback ------------> .

          Error code ------------------> 0 (DIAG_SUCCESS)

          Total run count -------------> 1

          Last test execution time ----> Jun 15 2013 12:05:37

          First test failure time -----> n/a

          Last test failure time ------> n/a

          Last test pass time ---------> Jun 15 2013 12:05:37

          Total failure count ---------> 0

          Consecutive failure count ---> 0

any advice for this case?

fyi, all switch with fail in diagnostic TestPortAsicLoopback now is running well and normally like switch with passed diagnostic test.

but anyone can share what mean or effect for this error/failed.

Best Regards,

Budi

The bug  <http://cdets.cisco.com/apps/dumpcr?&content=summary&format=html&identifier=CSCtl08303> CSCtl08303 documentation said it was not seen on single 2960s and two 2960s stack. So, if this stand alone switch is experiencing the failure, we need to reboot the switch and if the issue persist we could consider to replace it.

Budiyanto,

So far so good. I cannot guarantee how long it may work. It may work for years or it may flap or card can get crash anytime it depends on luck though. But couple of time the reset have solved this type of issue.

Your switch or line card needs to be RMA-ed.  There's nothing you can do about it.

Dear Leo,

its a hardware problem?

because untill now all switch with diagnostic test "TestPortAsicLoopback" failed is running well and no issue.

all switch failed is running same like switch with passed diagnostic test.

maybe anyone know the output "Error code = 0x1" ?

Its a hardware problem.

Dear Inayath and Yanuar,

thanks for the info. So far, the network running well with this issue, but can someday this bug make our network problem(like make device fail/hardware fail or link down, etc)?

Budi
