Hi all,

I am going to upgrade client's CWMS, from version 2.6 to version 2.8. Can I make full Virtual Machine copies and perform the upgrade on the VM copies. After the upgrade, put the upgraded VMs in production.

Thank you very much!

Hi Danny,

Cloning/copying VMs is not supported. Please, review the update instructions in Admin Guide:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/collaboration/CWMS/2_8/Administration_Guide/cwms_b_cwms-administration-2-8/cwms_b_cwms-administration-2-8test_chapter_01000.html

What you can do is put the system in Maintenance Mode, gracefully shut down VMs (in vCenter, right click VM > Power > Shut Down Guest), and take a VM snapshot of each VM.

Then power them all ON, wait until they come back up into Maintenance Mode and show as GOOD, and then run the minor update of the solution.

If something goes bad, you can easily revert to snapshots.

If all goes well, within 24-48h make sure you do remove the VM snapshots to avoid any performance issues.
