Hi,
Scheduling an upgrade for CCM 4.1.3
I'm just wondering what's the difference between OS 2000 4.2 and OS 2000 2.7 and which one should I use??
And also on the SQL patch, it should be install before the CCM upgrade or after??
Thanks.

You can read all about changes in 2000.4.x train in this link
Main enhancements are that during installation you dont have to enter installation keys.
Since its an upgrade, you have to apply the patch before the CCM upgrade.

But what's the recommended OS upgrade??
Should I upgrade to 4.2 and forget about the 2.7??

First I would look at your current OS version.
run Start > Cisco OS Version, C:\Utils\MCSver.exe, to identify the OS Image and OS upgrade version on your server.
The only supported versions from which you can upgrade to 2000.4.2 are,
a. 2000.2.7, 2000.2.7a
b. 2000.4.1, 2000.4.1b, 2000.4.1c
If your OS version is 2000.2.4, 5, 6 you have to upgrade to 2000.2.7 for a minimum before doing the upgrade.
To install or upgrade to 4.1.3 callmanager from your current version, you will need a minimum of 2000.2.7sr2 and SQL 2000 sp3. You can find this same info at
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/voice/c_callmg/ccmcomp.htm
I would suggest that you upgrade to 2000.2.7 (and also any latest service releases like SR8) and perform the callmanager upgrade. You may upgrade to 2000.4.x later.

The OS version is 2.6 sr8.
Can i do the following steps :
1) Upgrade to OS 2000 2.7
2) Upgrade to OS 2000 4.2
3) Install OS 2000 4.2 sr4
4) Upgrade CCM 4.1(3)
5) Install CCM 4.1(3) sr4
6) Upgrade SQL SP4
Will that be a correct steps??

That will work. I would recommend taking a BARS and system backup (image it) if possible. Also if drive removal is applicable do that so that you have a valid backup for immediate recovery.
Also before step 4, you will need SQL 2k SP3 applied.

BARS is already in my list..(before performing any upgrade)
Its currently, running on SQL 2K SP3..

Cool, then you are good to go with the steps above.
Always refer to CCM compatiblity matrix and readme's for the appropriate upgrade, before performing an upgrade.
Forgot to ask you if you had a subscriber. Do not apply patches like 4.1.3 SR4 after upgrading to 4.13 Both Pub and Sub needs to be at same version before updating any patches on the callmanager software.

yup, i've 2 subscriber..
meaning i've to upgrade all the CCM to version 4.1(3) first, then only can upgrade CCM 4.1(3) sr4 for a server at a time??

Exactly

one more question...
do you think its advisable to reinstall the CSA??
02-26-2006 09:46 AM
naive.naive,
While doing the upgrade, you are supposed to disable any services like CSA (set it to manual in services). If your current CSA version is older than the latest, you can uninstall and reinstall the new version.

We have CCM 4.1(3)SR2 install on OS 2000-2.7sr8. It appears that sr8 may be the last service release in the 2000-2.7 train, as there have been subsequent service releases for 2000-4.2, but not for 2000-2.7. In the lab, I've applied the ~400MB upgrade to 2000-4.2 and then the latest service release 2000-4.2sr4 and this appears to work. Is this a supported upgrade?
Do the SQL patches, specifically SP4, still need to be applied in addition to this OS Update?

I was recently advised by Cisco to migrate to 2000-4-2 if you want to stay current because there will be no further SR releases for 2000-2-7 apart from individual critical security patches.
