Hi,
i try to use a nexus 5020 for voip applications. in my case with dante devices.
After approximately 3 minutes it seems to be the nexus switch is filtering all PTP packets and the VOIP/Dante devices are loosing sync.

system: version 5.2(1)N1(9a)

best regards
Christoph

Update:
I observed the first 3 minutes and afterwards.
I discovered igmp snooping as reason, because there was no igmp querier.
PTP packets filtered by igmp after 3 minutes -> audio devices out of sync.
disabeling igmp snooping -> audio devices are in sync
enabeling igmp snooping and add a igmp querier -> audio devices are in sync

thank yo for your support

Can you share the configuration?

Hi Rick,

i hope this is the information you need.

I got some basic knowledge of iOS,  nx os is something new for me.

My intention is to use this older hardware for a Voip project.

best regards

Christoph

I don’t see ptp enabled. you would see “feature ptp” and “ ptp source xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx”

Do you have a ptp server you need to point to?

So i always need to activate the ptp feature and to define a ptp server.
If not the system will filter the ptp packets?
I already read about this topic on the cisco website.

iI think this message is part of my problem:

n5k(config)# feature ptp
ERROR: Feature PTP cannot be enabled in this platform.
n5k(config)#

Could it be a license problem?

best regards
Christoph

The Nexus requires L3 capabilities in order to support PTP.

PTP cannot be enabled on N5K-5020/5010.

Bummer, can you enable NTP

Hi Wes,

that could be the solution. No layer 3 capabilities no ptp.

Thanks!

PTP you don’t need a license so that’s strange. Can you send the output from “show feature”

NTP is enabled

Is this a voip service you subscribe to?

I try to use this hardware for a audio over ip network called dante.
Dante is usual for professional audio applications.

Do they have a natp server you can sync with? I would ask them. As MoH is very dependent on sync.

Well, i try to explain how this audio network works. Sorry, my technical english isnt good.
The devices elect their master clock either by best quality or by maunal defining of a master device. So there is no dedicated ptp clock.
however, this sync is working for about approximately 3 minutes. Then the devices are out of sync. I recorded the traffic with wireshark and i recognized that the ptp v1 packets were removed after some minutes.
Thats why i belive this nexus is filtering something.
So i tried to create a simple configuration with only one fex and no qos.
