We are currrently trying to connect a Cisco 3620 router to a T-1 line. The connection from the T-1 line is an RJ-48. We need to set up a CSU/DSU to manage the clocking of the line. In order to lower the cost of installation we would like to purchase a card for the 3620 that would manage the clocking rather than buying an external CSU/DSU. Cisco carrys a WIC-1DSU-T1 card the would handle the clocking but the connection is an RJ-45. Any suggestions?

The WIC-1DSU-T1 has a built in CSU and can generate clock for the circuit (although I prefer to have telco provide timing). RJ-45s and RJ-48s are identical from a physical perspective. The WIC connector is actually RJ-48 and will work fine with your telco demark.

RJ 45 and RJ 48 both has 8 wires. For Ethernet and T1 the only difference is the transmit receive pins changes. So you can use the same cat 5 cable for both ethernet and T1.
