I need to find a reasonably priced 2 port router for connecting between a Meridian telephone switch and our office Lan for Meridian management. The router will only be required to isolate the Meridan from Lan broadcast traffic and allow all any other traffic through. A 2 Ethernet port 2600 is the expensive option, but is this something the 501 could do? Fixed IP addresses would be needed on each ethernet (vlan) port.

The PIX will not carry out routing functions as such and will therefore not be used just to limit broadcasts. You could put the Meridian behind the PIX and use NAT to hide its real address, you could then set up rules as to which stations etc can manage it.
Hope that helps

John,
Thanks. So in this regard does the PIX 501 have the same funtionality as, say, a 520?

that is correct, a 501 will run the V6.X PIX O/S & PDM but obviously cannot have additional interface cards added (which a 520 could have).
