Core issue

PIX Device Manager (PDM) versions 3.0(1), 3.0(2), 4.0(1), and 4.1(1) are incompatible with Java Plug-in versions 1.4.2_08 and 1.5.0_02 or later. If PDM is accessed from a computer workstation with these Java Plug-ins or later versions of Java Plug-in installed, the PDM can remain stuck at the loading stage and displays this error message:

exception: java.security.AccessControlException:

access denied (java.util.PropertyPermission java.version read).

Changes made in the Java Plug-in 1.4.2_08 and 1.5.0_02 break the existing code-loading functionality in PDM.

Resolution

Try one of these workarounds:

  1. Download and install the maintenance releases PDM 3.0(4) or  later in order to resolve this issue.

Note: If you need to run the current version of PDM on the PIX Firewall, remove all new versions of Java, and downgrade the version of Java installed on the system from where PDM is accessed to a version earlier than 1.4.2_08. Then access PDM again.

  2. Use Java Virtual Machine (JVM). PDM supports the native Microsoft Internet Explorer JVM and the native Java Development Kit (JDK), a Java Plug-In. PDM Version 3.0 supports the Java Plug-In 1.3.1, 1.4.0 and 1.4.1, which is recommended.

Refer to the Download page in order to download the required Java plug-in.

Refer to Field Notice: FN - 62051 - PIX Device Managers Incompatibility with Java Plug-In Versions 1.4.2_08 and 1.5.0_02 for more information.
