Password Recovery

After much effort to get it to work properly, I finally was able to get tftp to work. My new problem is this:

It retrieved the file but hung with the last line saying:

"Recieved 1110592 bytes"

and it's hung up there. It's a PIX 501 bios version 4.2 (embedded bios version 4.3.200) and I was using nppix.bin from the cisco page on password recovery.

Any ideas? Didi I choose the wrong file?

Hello,

which TFTP server are you using ? You might want to try this one:

http://www.jounin.net/

Click on Tftpd32 in the download section.

Also, when you say BIOS version 4.2, I assume you mean PIX OS version ? Are you referring to the procedures in this document ?

Password Recovery and AAA Configuration Recovery Procedure for the PIX

I figured out the problem I was having as stated above:

I connected through my switch on the network via the WAN port on the firewall. Then set the interface as 0 instead of the default of 1. then I was able to get a ping reply but it would hang after the tftp transfer finished and the file started loading.

Your question about my use of "BIOS" made me think, so I went back and lookef through the hundreds of lines of output I saved in a text file.

Sure enough, I did mean BIOS, but there was a line that displayed only twice which read "Cisco PIX Firewall Version 6.3(4) " So I downloaded and followed the same instructions using np63.bin instead of nppix.bin and sure enough everything went well, the file loaded and as described in the instructions.

When I get the opprotunity, I will post on the success of verfying that it was successful.

As I said in a reply earlier today, I was able to get the procedure to go as it should and get the file to reload and reset the passwords.

After attempting to verify, I have prematurely marked my problem as solved. I still cannot get into Cisco PIX Device Manager on the web interface. what should I be using as a default username and Password?

Hello,

try ´pix/cisco´ as username/password combination, or leave the username field blank and just enter the password ´cisco´.

Many thanks, I've been tearing my hair out as the password recovery just isn't working, couldn't ping the server!!

Your suggestion cured my problem

Cheers Tony
